[Getting started](https://kb.xdrradiology.com/getting-started?hsLang=en-us) September 21, 2026 # XDR Sensor Holders ## How to assemble and sterilize your XDR Sensor Holders **XDR Paralleling Guide System (ShaRing & Litening Rod set ANT/POST/BW )** ![](https://kb.xdrradiology.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Feb-17-2025-09-52-09-7796-PM.png?width=670&height=473&name=image-png-Feb-17-2025-09-52-09-7796-PM.png) **Biteblocks- (Yellow Posterior PA, Blue Anterior PA , Red Vertical BWX and Red Horizontal BWX)** **![](https://kb.xdrradiology.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Feb-17-2025-10-34-07-1854-PM.png?width=670&height=248&name=image-png-Feb-17-2025-10-34-07-1854-PM.png)** **Autoclaving Instructions:** - Autoclave sensor holders before and after each use. - Place components in sterilization pouches: metal and plastic parts *separately*. - Position pouches paper-side down on the middle tray, away from walls and the heating element. - Follow the autoclave manufacturer's instructions for cycle parameters, and do not exceed 270°F/ 27 lbs psi-15 minutes **Note**: Plastic parts have a limited life and should be replaced periodically. Any method of sterilization will shorten the life of plastic parts.  **Sensor Positioner Assembly** :  To assemble the *XDR Paralleling Guide System (ShaRing & Litening Rod)* with the Biteblocks follow these instructions:    **For Bitewings:**   - Choose the red sensor holder/biteblock marked **HBW** for horizontal bitewings, or **VBW** for vertical bitewings for the appropriate size sensor. - Insert the round pegs of *Litening Rod* marked **BITEWING** into the selected biteblock part of the sensor holder. - Gently insert or slide the sensor into the sensor holder arms of the sensor holder/biteblock. Usually, the sensor holder arm will be positioned in the center line of the sensor’s white active side which is towards the biteblock of the sensor holder.   However, depending on the anatomic area of interest, the sensor can be move mesially or distally relavive to the sensor holder to capture the desired anatomy depending on the specific clinical task. - Insert the square end of the *Litening Rod* into the square channel of the *ShaRing* marked **BW-ANT**. Use the attached cable guide clip on the *ShaRing* for further cable management. **For Anterior Periapicals:**   - Choose the blue sensor holder/biteblock for the appropriate size sensor. - Insert the round pegs of *Litening Rod* marked **ANTERIOR** into the biteblock of the sensor holder. - Gently insert or slide the sensor into the sensor holder arms, is is important to assure the sensor is completely seated into the biteblock at the bottom, and the white face of the sensor is towards the biteblock of the holder. - Insert the square end of the *Litening Rod* into the square hole of the *ShaRing* marked **BW-ANT**. Use the attached cable guide clip on the *ShaRing* for cable management. **For Posterior Periapicals:**   - Choose the yellow sensor holder/biteblock for the appropriate size sensor. - Insert the round pegs of *Litening Rod* marked **POSTERIOR** into the biteblock part of the sensor holder. - Gently insert or slide the sensor into the sensor holder arms. ,Usually the sensor holder arm will be positioned in the center  line of the sensor’s white active side which is towards the biteblock of the sensor holder.   However, depending on the anatomic area of interest, the sensor can be moved mesially or distally relavive to the sensor holder to capture the desired anatomy depending on the specific clinical task. - Insert the square end of the Litening Rod into the square hole of the ShaRing marked **P**. Use the attached cable guide clip on the ShaRing for cable management. NOTE: Visually verify the white active side of the sensor is visible in the geometric center of the ShaRing before positioning in the patient’s mouth.      **XDR Accessory Kit Contents**   When you purchase a XDR Sensor, a complimentary accessory kit is included.
