X-Vision Portable X-Ray Unit: Maintenance & Infection Control

Standard Operating Procedures and Maintenance Guidelines for the X-Vision XR-3800

All staff operating or handling the X-Vision Portable Unit must follow appropriate infection control guidelines and maintenance procedures before, during, and after patient use.

Risk Assessment & Classification

According to the CDC’s “Spaulding Scale,” handheld portable X-ray units are classified as non-critical medical devices.

  • Definition: A device that comes into contact with intact skin only or has indirect contact.

  • Clinical Contact Points: While non-critical, the following areas are high-risk for cross-contamination:

    • Control Panel

    • Unit Handles

    • Position Indicating Device (PID)

Infection Control Standards

The ADA and CDC guidelines require a multi-layered approach to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Barrier Methods: Use EPA-registered disposable plastic adhesive films, bags, or covers on all clinical contact points.

  • Frequency: Barriers must be discarded and replaced between every patient.

  • Surface Disinfection: In addition to barriers, regular surface cleaning must be performed. Manufacturer recommends a non-alcohol based disinfectant.

Technical Resource: For detailed cleaning and disinfection instructions, refer to the X-Vision Model XR-3800 User Manual located on the Flight Dental Systems download website.

Maintenance Plan

Consistent maintenance is essential for the reliable operation of the XR-3800. All staff members who operate or handle the portable handheld unit should refer to the instructions located in the official maintenance schedule.

  • Detailed Procedures: Specific steps for routine care are found in Chapter IV: Maintenance Plan of the X-Vision Model XR-3800 User Manual.
