Image Calibration for X-ray Measurement

Learn to use the scaling button to calibrate the known length reference for measuring

This process uses a reference object of known length within your X-ray image.

Step 1: Enlarge the Image

  1. In the "View exam" screen, double-click on the X-ray image you wish to calibrate. This will enlarge the image.

Step 2: Access the Scaling Tool

  1. Navigate to the "Analyze" tab.
  2. Click on the scaling button .
  3. An instruction window will appear.

Step 3: Choose Option B for known object length

  1. Within the instruction window, select Option B, which is labeled as "Apply length scaling only, using a reference".
  2. You will notice that a field for "REF. Length in mm" is required.

Step 4: Input the Reference Length

  1. In the "REF. Length in mm" box, type in the exact known length (in millimeters) of the reference object that is visible in your X-ray image.
  2. Click the OK button.

Step 5: Show Your Reference Length on the X-ray

  1. You will be prompted with a message: "Click and drag a line on the x-ray to orient grid".

  2. On the X-ray image, locate the reference object you just provided the length for.
  3. Hold down the left mouse button at one end of your reference object.
  4. Drag the cursor along the entire length of the reference object.
  5. Release the mouse button at the other end of your reference object.

Step 6: Confirm Calibration

  1. Once you release the mouse button, a grid of 1mm squares will be overlaid on your image. This visually confirms that the scaling has been applied based on your reference length.

Step 7: Remove the Grid (Optional)

  1. To remove the overlaid grid, simply click on the scale button again.

Your X-ray image has now been successfully calibrated and is ready to be measured!
