Blurry X-ray Images: Checking Sharpening Defaults

Blurry images in enlarged or mounted view suggest the workstation lacks a default sharpening setting

Motion blur

A very blurry image may be due to movement of the sensor or patient during an X-ray exposure. Check to make sure the sensor and holder assembly is securely positioned between the teeth of the patient so no slippage will occur, and if the sensor or holder is impinging on the soft tissue of the patient, this may cause the patient to move their jaw to alleviate the discomfort. Check to make sure the patient is comfortable with the sensor placement before exposing the X-ray.

Checking Sharpening Defaults

Click here for an article on Basic Sharpening Settings that will guide you through setting up your default sharpening preferences.

Note: While setting the basic sharpening defaults can significantly improve image blurriness, it's equally important to ensure you are using the correct exposure recommendations for your specific sensor. Proper exposure helps capture the optimal amount of information.

Please refer to the Exposure Guidelines specific to your Anatomic or XDR Clarity sensor.

For all non-XDR sensors, please consult the respective sensor manufacturer for support.
